Happy Monday! Or maybe the "happy" depends on how your team did yesterday? ;)

In any case, I have a few things to share with you before I get back to work...

1. Speaking of work,  I have the best clients! And I am busy :) As I am working through my waitlist, family responsibilities are ensuring that I maintain part-time hours, but I am doing my best to streamline my processes to make the most of the work hours I have. I will be taking some time off this summer, so if you have projects in mind, let me know and I will add you to my waitlist and let's get those projects done!

2. I learn something new with each project. To complete this latest one (which I hope to show you soon), I needed to order new down envelopes for the seat cushions (see why?)...

... a down envelope goes around a foam core and together it makes for a very comfortable cushion. If you want to add a luxurious touch to your slipcover project, down envelopes are a great option for a very reasonable price. This is what they look like...

The foam slides right in there! Let me know if you want to explore this option for your project (I'm eying a few pieces in my house that could use an upgrade)!

3. August Blues is now on Instagram! I'm just starting out and still figuring it all out, but you will find me at augustblues :)

I posted these yesterday - Maple Scones (which were easy to make and delicious, by the way!) with the recipe from here.

4. Also, if you are a regular here, you may have noticed a new link on the sidebar. If you are thinking of trying out your slipcover skills and feel like you need a little guidance, check out the link at Custom Slipcovers By Shelley. She has made a great DVD that will walk you through the process in a low-stress, but professional way. She has lots of great tips - I got it when I was just starting out and I learned a lot! FYI - this is an affiliate link, so it helps out my bottom line a little, too, if you click through and make a purchase ;)

And now on to work... Have a wonderful, productive week!

Happy Monday!

Happy Monday! I hope you are off to a great start this week. I am - I had supper in the slow cooker by 8:15 this morning!!! Anyone else rely on their slow cooker like I do?

Then it was time for breakfast, so I thought I would share this concoction with you (ok, truth - my Mom asked for this recipe quite awhile back and I have been remiss in sharing it with her, so I thought I would share it with all y'all (!!) too).

Here is my version of homemade instant (well, quick) oatmeal...

August Blues - Oatmeal Ingredients
August Blues - Oatmeal Ingredients

It's really just a matter of proportions so here goes...

For every 1 cup of quick oatmeal, I add:

1 tbsp ground flax seed

1 tbsp sunflower seeds

1 tbsp dried cranberries

1 tbsp brown sugar

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp salt

Mix it all together and store in an airtight container.

To serve, I measure out about 1/2 cup of oatmeal mix in a bowl. Heat about 1/2 cup of milk (I use Silk mostly) for 1 minute in the microwave. Pour the milk over the oatmeal mix and let it sit for a few minutes (or however long it takes you to start your computer, check your e-mail, get coffee, start a load of laundry, etc.). Enjoy!

I usually mix up about 3 cups of oatmeal at a time, so about once a week, I make a new batch. There are lots of ways to change up this mix, so have fun with it and add whatever strikes your fancy.

Do you have a go-to breakfast, or do you have something different every day?
